Seasonal transition periods are always the most difficult to dress for. You never know if the weather will be warm or cool so putting together an ensemble of the right shoes, clothes and outerwear seems to be near impossible. But with the right mindset, transition outfits can be fun and fairly simple to put together.

In February, I’d recommend slowly moving from dark, cool colors to florals and eventually brights. Start off by adding a pop of color with an accessory, then go a little more bold with a bright piece of outerwear. In March, try to switch to browns and tans as your neutrals as opposed to blacks and greys. Along with these tips, we have five key pieces that will help you transition your wardrobe as the weather warms up.

The Maxi

The warmer weather will also allow you to put away the pants and try a maxi dress or skirt. The maxi is still in this season and is a great, effortless way to transition from winter to spring this year. Since it still covers your legs, you won’t get too much of a breeze while still allowing some breathing room.

  • <h2>The Ankle Boot</h2>
<p>Instead of using traditional knee-high or over-the-knee boots, opt for ankle boots. These shoes still keep your feet warm, but leave a little room for some air. Now that the weather is warming up, there’s no need to be fully covered from head to toe.</p>
  • <h2>The Bright Blazer</h2>
<p>Since it’s not quite summer yet, it is still important to wear a light jacket to keep warm and stay healthy. Use the opportunity to pack a punch of color into your outfit. A bright blazer is the perfect way to refresh a tired look.</p>
  • <h2>The Leather Accent Jacket</h2>
<p>As you may have noted, leather accents were huge for fall, but this year, they are transitioning into spring. Continue to wear your leather-accented jacket—it will still keep you warm, but not over heated like a full leather jacket would this time of year. Plus you could always layer it on top of a cardigan and take it off as the day warms.</p>
  • <h2>The Printed Scarf</h2>
<p>A little really goes a long way with the printed scarf. Unlike its cold weather cousin, the printed scarf is lighter and offers more of a style function as opposed to warmth. But don’t dismiss expectation of warmth just yet; the printed scarf actually does keep your chest and neck warmer than you’d be without it. Not to mention a floral print can really liven up your look.</p>
